Science Enrichment Academy at Stockton (SEAS)

What is SEAS?

When you think about Stockton University and its innovative, collaborative programming and initiatives, we would like you to think about our Science Enrichment Academy at Stockton (SEAS). The SEAS Program is a two-week residential experimental learning opportunity for high school students. Participants will be involved in classroom, laboratory and field experiences as well as an overnight camping exploration.

We are planning to invite 24 rising seniors to the Stockton University Campus from July 16 through July 29, 2017.

What is the Impact?

The SEAS program will expose participants to the process of scientific inquiry. The participants will gain experience gathering, measuring and analyzing data. The 2015 and 2016 participants report that the two weeks they spent on campus made a tremendous difference in their lives. All of the 2015 and 2016 participants have chosen STEM majors and more than 35% of those students have been accepted to Stockton University. The students developed friendships and enhanced their ability to engage in group work as they developed their final group projects.

How We Got Started

In 2015 Stockton’s School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics hosted its first camp for 22 students from Atlantic and Ocean counties.  In 2016 the camp expanded to include students from 13 different high schools throughout the state of New Jersey!

How Can You Help?

In order to provide this one of a kind experience for these students we rely on support from people like you.  The actual expenses for the camp range between $1500 and $2000 for each student and include dormitory stay, food and several exciting field trips.  Stockton University asks the students to pay only a portion of the expense.

Vital philanthropic support from sponsors and donors provides materials and supplies, and makes it possible for the students to travel off campus to visit such places as Nacote Creek Marine Environmental Field Station, Forsythe Federal Wildlife Refuge, the Pygmy Forest, the Atlantic City Dolphin Watch, and the marine estuaries of Southern New Jersey.

Please consider making a gift today on our Stockton Elevate website.  Your support will allow us to expose more high school students to classroom, laboratory and field exercises which focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics topics, as well as allow us to offer this opportunity to under-served, under-represented, and economically disadvantaged students.
