With the annual Stockton Athletics awards brunch canceled this spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Stockton Athletics is saluting its student-athletes via this virtual awards recognition. All 19 intercollegiate teams are represented with videos featuring seniors and award winners.
For spring sports, award winners from the previous season are featured along with seniors from the current season due to the usual timing of the brunch on the last Sunday in April. Videos for the spring sports teams include awards from Spring 2019 along with seniors from Spring 2020.
In addition to the seniors and award winners, this virtual awards recognition includes highlight videos from two conference championship teams, 2019 Men's Lacrosse and 2019 Volleyball, plus the announcement of the Stockton Male and Female Athletes of the Year.
The Spring 2020 season was off to a fantastic start at Stockton University before its unfortunate cancellation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Osprey baseball, men's lacrosse, softball and women's lacrosse teams were a combined 18-5 (.783 winning percentage) in the abbreviated slate of games.
Although the end came much too soon, especially for seniors whose careers came to a premature and unceremonious close, there were several highlights for the four Stockton teams that played games during a spring season that lasted just over three weeks.
The Stockton University women's lacrosse team and seven of its student-athletes qualified for academic recognition from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). The Ospreys earned acknowledgement as an IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad by registering a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the 2018-19 academic year.
Stockton was one of 166 NCAA Division III teams to achieve Academic Honor Squad status and one of five NJAC schools on the list, joining Rowan, The College of New Jersey, Kean and Montclair State. The Ospreys went 9-7 this spring, the sixth consecutive season with a winning record since the program's inception.
The Stockton University Women's Lacrosse team (11-7) captured their first ever postseason championship with an 11-7 victory over Marywood University (13-8) in May. The Ospreys won the 2018 ECAC Division III Championship for the first time in the five-year history of the program.
